Walnut is prized for its rich, chocolate-brown heartwood and striking grain patterns that often feature "curly" or "wavy" figures. While slightly softer than some oaks (Janka 4.5 kN), its exceptional dimensional stability means it is less prone to warping or shrinking in fluctuating kitchen temperatures. I ordered custom 50mm thick tassie oak stair treads and winders for a staircase and they came up a treat. WR timbers did a fantastic job with the stair treads, and they also had a prompt turnaround time. Very happy and I would highly recommend them.
